The relocation and future displacement of informal squatter settlements often has detrimental effects on an already vulnerable population. While investigating the existing patterns of intent set by a seaside informal squatter community in Manila, story fragments unfold as Raya (an architecture student who migrated to California from the Philippines) and Pia (a seamstress and laundry woman living in a squatter community in Manila) become immersed in a book called Lungsod Iskwater. As the begin working together, the book the both possess opens the door to conversations that lead to an interrogation of our tendencies to intervene. How do we love a place where everyday changes are unfathomable?
